Two of our founding members launched the first fully biometric passport, visa, and electronic ID systems in the Americas in 2006. The project included ePassports, Visas, and six types of Electronic IDs (eID): (1) Work Permits, (2) Citizenship, (3) Permanent Residence (Green card), (4) Resident Spouse, (5) Permit to Reside, (6) Homeowner’s as well as Enrollment, Approval, and Issuance systems for Passports, Visas, and IDs, Border Control and Deportation System, Watch List Management, Cruise ship & Airline Manifests, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
Other electronic ID projects include National IDs, Driver’s Licenses, Voters Registration Cards, Social Security Cards, and other biometric-based RFID solutions.
Our ePassports were fully compliant with the standards put forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) document 9303 and were completely interoperable with other countries that follow these ICAO standards. The passports had a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) and a chip embedded in them which store facial scans, fingerprints, and digital signatures. The passports had security in various forms including the Data Page, the chip, and of course the passport paper itself.
More recently, in partnership with MCS Microsystems, our team has launched SMAC, a QR Code-based Physical and Digital ID System that identifies a person through a Unique Identifier and secured by a digital signature.
SMAC is a Physical, Mobile, Web QR Code-based, Blockchain ID Platform that allows Governments & citizens to exchange data seamlessly and securely.
Why QR Code?
- Availability: There is a shortage of silicon in the world resulting in:
* Difficulty sourcing silicon for chip manufacturing
* Increase in cost of raw materials and chip-based ID Cards
- Easy Access: QR Codes are a popular 2D barcode solution supported by many devices & applications
- Portability: QR Codes hold a significant amount of data and are highly portable (print & digital)
- Cost: QR Codes can be printed on low-cost PVC cards
- Security: QR Code only shares unique identifier; no transfer of personal user data
Why SMAC?
Interoperable: Physical, Web, and Mobile capabilities
Cost: Extremely cost effective due to flexible platform configurations and because the Issuing Authority can issue either Mobile IDs or cost-effective PVC Printed IDs
Security:
- PKI
- Private Blockchain with Hashing & Encryption
- Unique ID based on 128-bit or 1038 entropy
- Permission / Role-based Data Sharing
- Identity Verification via biometrics
- OTP Authentication (Multifactor)
